La Maddalena

The Maddalena Archipelago has been declared the National Park in 1994 as a geomarine protected area, and is located on the northeastern coast of Sardinia. It consist of 7 main islands: La Maddalena, Caprera, Santo Stefano, Spargi, Budelli, Santa Maria and Razzoli. There are other 60 smaller islands surrounded by the beautiful clear and transparent sea.

The clear and uncontaminated waters characterize the Maddalena Archipelago with its 180 km coastline and definitely, it is an ideal holiday destination especially appreciated by tourists for its natural, unique and breathtaking beauty. The main island of the Archipelago called Maddalena and is reachable by ferry from Palau in just 15-20 minutes. Things to see in La Maddalena

Besides the natural beauty and various beaches of the Maddalena Archipelago, we suggest visiting the Museum of Garibaldi situated on the Caprera where you can see the relics of the Hero of Two Worlds, his library, the photographs and the residence where he spent the last years of his life.
In addition to the Compendium of Garibaldi, on the Caprera is also possible to visit the geological and mineralogical museum. Here are exposed samples of minerals, rocks, fossils, beach’s sand and shells.
Definitely, worth to recommend is the patronal feast of the La Maddalena. The patron is St. Maria Maddalena, and the feast day is on 22 July. The spectacular procession takes place by the sea with boats and fireworks at the end of the event’s day.
High recommended and worth to see is for sure the famous Pink Beach, which is located on the island of Budelli, and you can go there with the organized boat tours or private boat but you have to moor some distance away from the beach, because it takes part to the protected area.

The best beaches of the Maddalena Archipelago

There are many beautiful beaches of the Maddalena Archipelago, and in case of a windy day, there is a possibility to choose more covered beach or cove in order to enjoy the sea in the best of ways.

Spalmatore (La Maddalena)

Situated in the northern part of the Island, the beach of Spalmatore protected from the wind feature the shallow and sandy waters. The available services at the disposal of tourists are bar, restaurant, sun loungers and umbrellas. Here the sea is clear and transparent, what makes it one of the most fascinating beaches of the La Maddalena Island.

Baia (o Bassa) Trinita (La Maddalena)

Along the panoramic road, you will reach in the northern part of La Maddalena the spectacle of nature. The beach consists of 3 pristine coves that reflect the uniqueness of this Archipelago. It is difficult to describe the beauty of this place with its aromas of Mediterranean maquis and the crystal-clear and breathtaking waters. Next to the parking place there is a small kiosk that offers refreshments.

Spiaggia Due Mari (Caprera)

The name of this beach came from its particular form. There is a little beach on the right side and several connected beaches on the left side. It completely sandy beach.

Spiaggia Relitto (Caprera)

This beautiful beach takes its name from the presence on the shore the skeleton of an ancient ship that was carrying coal, which sank after the fire on the board. The beach feature the fine white sand, shallow and completely sandy waters, in a beautiful setting of Mediterranean flora. One of the most captivating landscapes.

Cala Serena (Caprera)

Cala Serena is a little jewel nestled in the western part of Caprera, reachable via a footpath in 20 minutes. The beach was chosen in the United States as the most romantic beach in the world.

Cala Coticcio o Tahiti Beach (Caprera)

On the east coast of Caprera, the Cala Coticcio beach is one of the most beautiful and well-known beaches of the Maddalena Archipelago. Extraordinary Mediterranean maquis that surrounds it as well as the beauty of the water makes it exotic. It is reachable through a path of 40 minutes, or directly by sea.

Cala Corsara (Spargi)

Beautiful cove in the southern part of Spargi. It is famous because in its waters was found a shipwreck that are conserved in the Archaeological Naval Museum. It is made up of 4 small beaches and is only accessible by sea.

Cala Soraya (Spargi)

Located in the eastern part of the island of Spargi also this beach is reachable only by sea and is characterized by fine white sand and transparent shallow waters.

Spiaggia Rosa (Budelli)

The name Spiaggia Rosa means Pink Beach and it takes the name from the extraordinary chromatic effect (from characteristic pink color of the sand) due to the morphology of the coast and its waters, exactly due to breakage of shells of tiny marine animals. Definitely is a unique beach that represents a famous myth. It is located in the southeast part of the island Budelli and you can visit it with a guided tour. Since 1994, it is not possible to swimming there, as well as the access and transit.
