Master Class – A Gourmand Experience in Sardinia

Amongst other experiences one decides to do while in Sardinia, there is a new interesting one: a gourmand lunch or dinner called Master Class.

It is something that goes beyond a common typical lunch at a local restaurant or agritourism. It is an original idea of a Sardinian lady that offers the possibility, to her guests, to participate to all the food preparation for a typical Sardinian meal.

She called her house a “Tradition house” because they prepare old recipes that are difficult to find in restaurants and agritourism nowadays, such as pecora in cappotto (local sheep recipe), pane frattau (local thin bread with tomato sauce and goat cheese), fried cream and lamb brains.

It all happens in a beautiful farmhouse, typical from Gallura region of Sardinia, on a hill with sea view and a big garden where the guests are free to pick up season fruits direct from the trees (figs, oranges, mandarins…).

For the families with kids the enjoyment is increased with the little donkeys that surely please the children.

Reservations are accepted all over the year and, depending on the season, the dinner is served on the big veranda surrounded by centennials olive trees. Otherwise, it is possible to eat inside.

What makes this experience so special is the close contact with the local traditions. The guests can literally “put their hands in the dough” (a popular Italian quote) and learn the secrets to prepare the dishes directly from people that know it for generations.

Depending on the time of the lunch or dinner, it is possible to go in the surroundings to pick up mirto (the small blue fruit from which the famous local liquor is made of). After the harvest it is possible (when there’s enough quantity) to press it and have it in a bottle with the own name to take home.

For the meal, other than other dishes, there are pork and lamb roasted the shepherd’s way, outside with the fire aside. The guests are welcome to participate and see how each part of the preparation is made.

Regarding the candies, le Acciuleddi o le tiricche, are tied and interlaced at the moment, under the eyes of the guests, so as for the classical seadas (cheese filled fried dough covered with honey).

A sommelier from a local wine cellar will bring some wine and the guests are free to buy some for the dinner or to take home.

To enrich the evening, the guests can sing and dance together with local instrumentalists completing the enjoyment of the experience.

A very comfortable plus is that the organization offers transfer from and to the main hotels and places in the surroundings, so as qualified translators and tourist guides to allow the guests to enjoy all the experience at its best, understanding each step and recipe.

If the guests enjoy too much wine and liquors, they can stay for the night in one of the characteristic rooms and wake up in the morning in the Sardinian countryside with the birds singing around. A local breakfast will be served before they return to their hotels.

During the whole time, the local people are going to wear the local dresses, making this experience even more real and inside the Sardinian tradition. The tourists will take this special experience in their hearts going home. An unique and unforgettable experience.
